For the third year, Diola Bagayoko, dean of the Dolores Margaret Richard Spikes Honors College and distinguished professor of physics, has received a grant of more than $250,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF), through the Louisiana Board of Regents.

During the last week in October, a group of scholars from Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Baton Rouge attended the 2017 Leadership Institute in Washington, D.C. The event is described as a power-packed four-day conference that prepares carefully selected students from the 47 publicly supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to compete in today’s very competitive global workforce.

The induction was held in at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Washington, DC, October 7, 2017, in conjunction with the 2017 Transforming Health, Driving Policy Conference.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics 2017 to Rainer Weiss (LIGO/Virgo Collaboration), Barry C. Barish (LIGO/Virgo Collaboration), and Kip S. Thorne (LIGO/Virgo Collaboration), "for decisive contributions to the LIGO detector and the observation of gravitational waves."

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ has recently become a Silver member with America Makes, and the first HBCU to partner with the nation’s leading and collaborative partner in additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing (3DP) technology research, discovery, creation, and innovation. This public-private partnership is a multi-agency collaboration among industry, universities, and government partners, led by the Departments of Commerce, Energy, Defense, Education, NASA, and the National Science Foundation.
