SU physics professor co-authors third paper reporting the detection of gravitational waves

Stephen C. McGuire, the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Baton Rouge James and Ruth Smith Endowed Professor of Physics, is now a co-author on the first three publications reporting the observations of binary black hole collisions via the direct detections of gravitational waves by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO).

Southern students raise funds for classmates affected by fire

Eleven Âé¶¹´«Ã½ graduate students were left with nothing but the clothes on their back after a fire broke out at their apartment complex on Highland Road in Baton Rouge on May 6, 2017. At least five of the students were candidates in the May 12th Spring 2017 Commencement. The students were computer science majors and a part of the Indian Students Organization.

As a talented-art student in high school, Naja Isabelle Webb’s plan after graduating summa cum laude from Zachary High School in May 2014 was to attend the Memphis College of Art on scholarship, but a "high power" and not wanting to be far away from her mother, led her to enroll at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ in the fall of 2014.

Nelson Mandela’s grandson visits SU ahead of program rededication

Ndaba Mandela, the grandson of the late Nelson Mandela, visited Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Baton Rouge during his trip to the United States and stop in New Orleans, Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Nelson Mandela College of Government and Social Science dean Damien Ejigiri welcomed Ndaba to the campus while sharing stories of Nelson Mandela’s historic visit to Southern in 2000.
